Tonight I would like everyone to try to log into iXL, a practice site that I have connected all Year 7 boys to - you will have received an email with a login and password (your first name without a capital letter). Have an explore of the site and use it to develop your understanding in areas of Maths you find difficult.

Writing - you are to write a report on either the person you started writing about last night OR someone else. You can choose Glenn Cunningham, Nick Vujicic, Tony Christiansen - or someone else who has had to overcome 'hurdles'. Remember this is based around the idea'Attitude is important' Set out as follows:

7KF Maths - Complete the Percentage worksheets in your Maths books so we can mark tomorrow. Unless you have been specifically told otherwise also complete MM2, Page 267, Exercise 23 (no calculator)
Spelling - complete definitions ensuring your definitions relate to volcanoes. Any words not defined, use in a sentence related to volcanoes.
Writing - complete your paragraph on Glenn Cunningham or Nick Vujicic. Topic sentence (to start) is.'Attitude is important'.
Make sure you have written at least a couple of sentences of background info on these two men (do some research to help you out) then conclude with a couple of sentences that comment on their attitudes and what part their attitude has played in their life.
If you have not already done so, please download 'Piano Keys' app - it is free. This is an interesting app to build reaction time. Experiment with different factors - what is your top score using only your left hand? right hand? both hands? thumbs? Last 5 minutes of prep only boarders.

Social Science: Look back on the top 10 human rights you came up with working with your partner today. Select one to do some research on and find an example of how the human right that you think is important has been breached (not followed). Complete Spelling:
Group One - write definitions for words ending in y and use the words ending in s in a sentence. Remember to start with a capital letter and end with a fullstop.
Group Two - ten sentences and ten definitions (all words must be either defined or used in a sentence - 5 wil be both!) - try to relate the words to learning we are doing about human rights. Sentences should reflect what the word means.
Group Three - 15 definitions and then use all words in sentences around human rights. You might be able to use two or three in one sentence.
Make sure this work is completed in your Literacy/Spelling folder within the folder you have shared with me. Date your work!
Science - think back to last weeks experiment - what happened? Why? What happens if you keep on adding baking soda? Make sure you answer the following questions - at a minimum!

Writing - focus - writing paragraphs. Remember the first sentence of each paragraph introduces a new aspect of that subject (topic sentence). Tonight you are writing about yourself - formally/ in the third person (do not say I). You are to write two paragraphs. The first is to introduce yourself. The second is to explain one aspect of you eg your appearance, your family, school, a hobby etc
EG Phoebe Buchanan was born on 12 July 2001. She lives in a 4 bedroom house in Havelock North. There are five people in Phoebe's family. She has a younger sister called Poppy and an older brother called Hugo.

I would like to make parents and boys aware of the second unit for RE which will have a short ( 10 mins) appropriately tailored test (10-15 Qs) in week 10 of this term.
The unit is Moses and the first Passover and looks at the story behind the Jewish celebration which is the backdrop for Holy Week and Easter for Christians.
All boys notebooks should have an annotated pictorial timeline of the story developed in class, which can be cross referenced in Exodus chapters 1-12. ( view on www.biblegateway.com Good News or NIV version)
Boys may also watch the 30 minute film again on youtube. "Testament Moses Bible in animation." (this is mainly accurate)
As we are all aware fixtures, music lessons and other reasons may have caused a gap for individuals but there is plenty of opportunity to recap each week and catch up .

This quote is what John Key said when announcing a referendum would take place if National was re-elected in September at the general election. Your task is:

In your Literacy folder on the WOTD doc in Google Docs (you'll be able to access this through Google Chrome or gmail from home)either write what the WOTD means or write the definition. The aim is to broaden your vocabulary - you will need to have the 5 WOTDs completed each week.
Similarly, 'TFTW' (Thought For The Week). Copy and paste this from the blog then explain in your own words what the quote means. A sentence or two is ample! Complete on the TFTW doc - also in your literacy folder!

Spelling - you will be given 15 spelling words each week which will be tested on Friday. The expectation is that you get a parent to test you on these at home (or the teacher on duty or a tutor if boarding). The following tasks then need to be completed in your Literacy book by Wednesday:
* Write 5 of the words into a sentence that reflects what the word means eg' It was a disaster.' is not a good sentence. 'The Christchurch earthquake was a disaster.' is better. Remember end punctuation and capital letters! Make your sentences interesting! Underline your list word using red pen and a ruler.
*Write the dictionary definitions of 5 of the words. Write the word first then the definition.
* For the last 5 words again use the dictionary and locate your word. Write the word from the dictionary that comes just before, your list word, then the word from the dictionary immediately after. eg if your list word was joke you would write
joint joke jolly
KF Maths - Page 36 NCM1 Complete the first 2 columns of Q1 then complete all of Q2 & 3. Mark your work from the back of the text book using red pen. If you get an answer wrong, work it out again, DO NOT JUST CHANGE IT!
WOTD - WORD OF THE DAY - we will start this on Wednesday when we have ICT but todays word is initial/ initially. Do nothing with this until Wednesday.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK - we will look at this on Wednesday also.
Social Science - complete your fishbone diagram on 'What I know about New Zealand' and also your Social Science title page by Wednesday.

Complete your Social Science fishbone diagram on 'What I Know About New Zealand'. This needs to have 6 headings, in red pen, with facts/names/events/dates you know about that topic, listed underneath in blue pen. This needs to be finished by Tuesday - as does your Social Science title page - bold clear lettering; a ruled frame; images that reflect your understanding of what Social Science is - if you are not sure - Google it!

Let's see who was listening - and also see who checks the blog! Today was the anniversary of what significant event in Hawkes' Bay/NZ history? Write one full sentence that answers this question and also tells me how many people died.
Spend 30 minutes completing your name frame - neatly! This should give us a little insight into the type of person you are.
