Dear
Parents/Caregivers
My name is
Kate Field and I will be your son’s classroom teacher for 2014. Our class will
be known as 7KF and is made up of 16 Year 7 boys – eleven who were at Here
worth last year and five who will have their first day on Monday. A particularly warm welcome to those boys - Wesley Akeripa, Archie Bayly, James Cairns,
Tom McEwan, William Robinson and their families.
This is my
first year teaching Year 7’s at Hereworth (though I have had plenty of
intermediate age experience) and I am excited to be the leader of the Year 7
syndicate. Other teachers in the Year 7 team are Carl Scrimgeour, who will
teach Maori and Chess to the 3 classes, and Neil McCorkell who will teach
Science across our year group. Your son will spend the majority of his time
working in our classroom but the boys move as a class for the subjects
mentioned above and there will be some boys who change classes for Maths. All
boys work with specialist teachers for Religious Education, Art, Music, Drama and
Technology. We will do Physical Education as a syndicate twice a week.
On the first
day boys need to come to school in their greys (summer uniform) and need to
bring their PE gear (black shorts, house polo and sneakers), togs and towel,
summer sports uniform (white polo, white shorts or long pants) and any sports
gear they may have – tennis racquet, cricket bag etc. They need to bring their
white hat and are welcome to bring a named drink bottle to have in class.
Ideally all boys will bring a pencil case. No iPads are to be brought to
school for the first two weeks.
You will have
received a notice from the office last week regarding the Year 7 camp on
February 25 – 28 at Kuripapango. If you are able to come on the camp as a
parent helper please let me know. A reminder to please return the Medical and
Risk form, by the end of Week One.
We have a
class blog which is predominantly for prep and notices/ information for the
boys that needs to be accessed from home. Boys will need to check this daily. It is
beneficial if you also take the time to view the blog as it will help keep you
in the loop with what is happening in 7KF. hereworth7kf@blogspot.co.nz
That your
child is happy at school is very important to me. Feeling good about themselves
as a learner plays an integral part in a child’s development – having good
self-esteem cannot be undervalued! A close working relationship between home and
school helps me to support your child to be the best he can. Please never
hesitate to get in touch with me if you have a question or query – on this

after school. I look forward to seeing
you on the 21 February at the class meeting prior to the swimming sports if not
before. I eagerly anticipate seeing your sons on Monday – 2014 is going to be a
fantastic year!
